Join us the third Saturday of the month at 1825 E 38 1/2 st.  at 3-5pm for this informative series!

Below is a listing of classes/speakers/teachers already confirmed for this series. Check back for more detailed class descriptions and bios on the speakers/teachers.  We recommend a $5 donation per person for each lecture, 100% of proceeds go to the Get Babied Foundation which provides doula care and childbirth education to families with financial restrictions.

 

2/16/13 Making the Best for Your Very Best: Homemade Baby Food 101 with Cheryl Carey

Cheryl Carey, owner of Taste and See Healthy Baby Food presents “Baby Food 101: How to Make the Best for Your Very Best.” This workshop is absolutely FREE! Tina Zarate is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer through the CCPDT and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). She has also completed an internship with Deb Winkler, former president of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. Tina worked as a behavior and training specialist at the Washington Animal Rescue League, a progressive shelter in Washington, DC that specializes in rehabilitating cats and dogs. Her time at the League gave her the opportunity to work with hundreds of rescue dogs and cats of all different ages, temperaments and breeds on a huge variety of problem behaviors, aggression, and anxiety issues. Tina lives with her husband and three beautiful dogs in Austin.

Liane has been supporting women’s health for over 24 years as an RN, an educator, and a midwife. Her training and experience in Canada, England, Ireland, Haiti, and the US have developed her appreciation for variations and expectations when taking care of women and families where they are. Her heart continues to be captured by knowing the families that she cares for, and she considers it a privilege to be involved with women during growth, transitions, challenges, and celebrations.

8/17/13 Developmental Milestones through the First Year: The Importance of Tummy Time & Floor Play with Susan Steffes

Months 0-3   Normal developmental milestones and the importance of tummy time

Months 3-6   Emergence of fine and gross motor skills and the importance of integrative floor play

Months 6-9   Sitting, creeping and crawling and the importance of unstructured floor time

Months 9-12  Standing and walking and the importance of self-led discovery

Susan Steffes, PT, CD(DONA) is a prenatal/postpartum and infant physical therapist specialist, working with both mamas and their babes for nearly 20 years.  Her pediatric training was completed at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, where her population of specialty was NICU preemies to children 3 years of age who had developmental delays.  She is a committee member and instructor for the American Physical Therapy Association’s, Section on Women’s Health, Certificate of Achievement in Pelvic Physical Therapy – Obstetrics Specialty.  Susan has been a physical therapist since 1994 and a doula since 1996.  Her passion for working with mamas and babes is evident in her enthusiasm for sharing information with parents and professionals alike.

10/19/13 Trauma Proofing your Kids with Robyn Gobbel LCSW

After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Miami University, Robyn went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. Most recently, she earned a certificate in Therapy with Foster and Adoptive Families from Portland State University. She is licensed in the state of Texas as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW #40735). She has worked with children in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, residential/day treatment center, group home, outpatient family services, and even in the Emergency Department.
