Your child care worries are over!

July 24th, 2012 by Steph

Hi mamas -

Many of you know me but some may not – I’m Steph Scott, former owner of Get Babied, now studying to become a labor & delivery nurse! When I was with Get Babied, one of the most common questions we heard was, “How can I find quality child care without having been on a waiting list for two years?” I have your answer – this wonderful nanny share that I belong to.

Quick description: 2 wonderfully loving nannies care for no more than 5 babies at a time. Children in the share range from brand new to 3 years old and families are able to take as many or as few days of the week as will meet their needs. The share runs on a semester schedule, and although there are only 5 little ones at a time, there are always openings throughout the year.

We started participating in the share this summer and I can honestly say it’s one of the best things that has happened to our lives as parents. Our daughter Briar Rose, now 15 months old, LOVES going to see the nannies, giving us the confidence and freedom to do what we need to do, knowing she is so well taken care of. Also, when I joined the share, I was thrilled to discover that several of the Get Babied babies were part of the group!

The children in the share range from 0 – 3 years and newborns and wee ones are most welcome. The littlest ones spend most of their time in the nannies’ arms.

If you are interested, or know a family that may be, please email Nicole Portwood at nicole.portwood@gmail.com for more information and/or arrange a visit.

Also, we’ll be sending a representative to the next Postpartum Potluck on 8/18 to talk more about the share. Hope to see you then!

    hi all.

as Steph said, the nanny share is wonderful for peace of mind and ease of use. they do require a minimum of one 8-hour day of the week to qualify. the terms run on a semester basis as many of the moms are instructor/teacher types. so you commit to a semester, pay each week on the morning of your first day at the share, and off you go.

it was very difficult to imagine leaving my 3-month-old son with anyone, but the nannies and the group put my mind at ease.

i recommend the group and the nannies. everybody is wonderfully caring and community-minded. and, bonus!, if you’d like to “try before you buy” so to speak, my son will be gone from his usual T/TH spots the first few weeks of August. if you’re interested, send me a note at stacymus@gmail.com and let’s set up a time to talk.

(nanny share shifts run 8.30am – 4.30pm; enzo (that’s my son) can use a sub for the following days:

    TH, Aug 2 …
    T, Aug 7 …
    TH, Aug 9 …
    T, Aug 14 …
    TH, Aug 16 …

    Warm regards,
    stacy

I second Stacy! And thanks Steph – our doula for our son Oliver, now 11 months old – for posting this!
Oliver has been in the nanny share for about 4 months and he seems to really enjoy it. I think it’s precious and not very common to have a ratio of 2 nanny for 5 babies.
We have another nanny that comes to our house and watches Oliver but we like to keep Oliver at the nanny share twice a week because he really enjoys the interaction with the other little ones.
We are going to be out of town in Colorado for the entire month of August, so if you’d like to try out the share on Tue afternoons or Th Am, PM or all day, feel free to contact me at stephlabay@gmail.com.
    Blessings,
    Stephanie Labay

A clarification from the nanny share regarding subs:

“If there was a family that wanted to commit to the fall and take a month of vacancies in August to get started early, that would be okay. Otherwise, it’s too disruptive for the nannies to have babies outside the share come and go.”

I am interested in this nanny share. Could someone email me more information about the nannies and how much it costs? I am also interested in seeing if there will be any availability for childcare this fall within the nanny share, a few days a week in the morning? Also, where is the nanny share located exactly? Could I stop by and check it out?

    Thanks,
    Delaine

Can you please email me the same information as Delaine ask for?

    Thanks
