Birth Affirmations

September 5th, 2010 by Ame

Yes, I am the “medical” doula.  But in honor of my next client due, who would like to incorporate some hypnobirthing techniques, I have gotten in touch with my hippie side reading through “Hypnobirthing” again, and researching some guided relaxation scripts and labor visualizations.

I loved some of the affirmations I came across and wanted to share them with all of you mamas to think about them in your final weeks.  These are great mantras for repetitve breathing/distraction too.  :)   Any favorites?

  • My body was made to do this, so I can
  • Each contraction brings my baby one step closer to being in my arms
  • I am drawing energy from all the women before me to birth my baby
  • Childbirth is a normal, healthy event
  • My baby and I are working harmoniously together
  • My baby and I are grateful for this powerful experience
  • I am able to make the best possible choices for a healthy, joyful birth
  • My labor pain is only a small portion of my life, I can do this for my beautiful baby
  • The power of birth will strengthen me, my baby and my partner
  • I trust my body to labor smoothly and efficient
  • * Pleasure is opening up to my baby
  • • My body knows how to give birth and I will let it.
  • • I am strong and I can let my contractions be strong.
  • • I am able to labor smoothly.
  • • I am and will be a great parent to my child.
  • • I feel my cervix opening.
  • • My baby feels my calmness and shares it with me.
  • • My baby will be born easily at the right time.
  • • The baby and I are rested and ready for the work we will do.
  • • I accept my labor.
  • • I am proud of my body.
  • • I feel the love and support of those who are helping me.
  • “I am a powerful birth warrior
  • My vagina is HUGE!!!
  • My cervix is opening like a flower
  • I have all the knowledge, I have all the power
  • I believe in my ability to give birth painlessly and easily.
  • I am not afraid.
  • During labor and birth, I am completely relaxed and comfortable.
  • My baby is healthy.
  • I am completely cooperating with my body.
  • “Soft, relaxing, opens.”
  • Confidence.
  • Just courage and patience are required to send my baby joyfully into my loving arms.
  • My body is made to give birth, nice and easy.
  • I believe my baby’s birth will come quickly, quietly and easily.
  • My body is completely relaxed.
  • Relax.
  • Everything is going right.
  • Relax my mind and muscles.
  • My body is not designed to hurt itself. My body is intelligent and will handle all situations expediently.
  • Keep breathing slow and even. Inhale peace, exhale tension,
  • Keep my mind on acceptance and surrender.
  • I show absolutely no signs of fear or concern.
  • My only responsibility is to control my mind. My body will birth my baby safely and effectively.
  • My body will give birth in it’s own time.
  • Birth is a supremely easy and natural occurrence for which my body has been perfectly designed.
  • I have the power to handle whatever comes up. I give birth peacefully and quietly.
  • There will be no complications.
  • Total serenity is my backdrop.
  • I believe in myself and I have nothing to fear.
  • I give birth in safety and solitude.
  • I do not fight the birth in any way. My body is totally relaxed. I am not afraid.
  • My body is meant to give birth efficiently, naturally, painlessly and without complications. Birth is a joyful event.
  • Mind is everything. We become what we believe.
  • Believing makes it happen.
  • Contractions are easy, relax.
  • I follow my instincts and give birth in the way I desire.
  • I am ready and prepared for this.
  • My job is to simply relax and allow the birth to happen.
  • I see myself handling everything beautifully.
  • I deserve this birth!

These are amazing! I used some version of “my baby and I are working in harmony” and “I can do this” and “Oh $#!%!!” LOL But of all those listed, I think “my vagina is HUGE” is awesome! What a great idea to pick out a few together with your partner, so s/he can whisper them at a much-needed moment.

Did you really say “Oh &*(%^#?!!! – I remember a calm cool collected graceful birth – but perhaps I have selective memory too. Or perhaps it was lost in the German translation. :) AS.
